~~~ Sensei Doug Au ~~~
"Loyalty and devotion lead to bravery; Bravery leads to the spirit of self sacrifice; The spirit of self sacrifice creates trust in the power of love" ~~ Morihei Ueshiba, from "The Art of Peace"
Sensei Doug Au trained in Aikido under Kaminari Sensei and travels extensively to practice under other skilled teachers. Doug Sensei enjoys both the teaching and the learning that goes on in Aikido training, and considers himself very much a student of the art. The pure enjoyment of Aikido is very much evident in Sensei's dojo, Marina Aikido Ten Chi Kai, where going past the scheduled end of class is fairly routine, teacher and students enjoying it too much to stop!
Aikido, founded by Morihei Ueshiba (O'Sensei), is a unique and deep Martial Art; physically, mentally, and spiritually. At the core of Aikido is our duty as humans to love and protect all living things. Because this concept is stressed from the very beginning of practice we are able to foster a friendly and safe atmosphere in the dojo. This also allows us to take some very Martial techniques and make them very safe to execute in the dojo. Aikido techniques, when done correctly, allow the user to apply just enough force or strength necessary to resolve the situation.
A centered, strong, relaxed, body contributes greatly to a calm alert mind, and peaceful heart. Add camaraderie and the confidence of self defense knowledge and you have it all. The Aikido journey is a very fulfilling one, and it is one Doug Sensei plans on taking his lifetime to enjoy. His goal, to continue the traditions and teachings of O'Sensei and to help others in their Aikido journey.
Aikido principles can be applied to daily life, and students intuitively discover this early in their training. Although the conflicts we run into in our daily lives may not be a threatening or a life and death situation,
we can apply the same principles to resolve them. This is part of the beauty of this martial art.
The best way to find out if Aikido is what you have been looking for is to get on the mat.
