~~~ Dianne Kosdrey Bunnell ~~~
"We do not want churches, because they will teach us to quarrel about God." ~~ Chief Joseph
Dianne Kosdrey Bunnell author of The Protest a fictional novel 'inspired' by the real life highjacking of her daughters.
Dianne, a magna cum laud graduate from Whitworth College with a BA in English and her teaching credential from St. Martin's College, taught high school English during the ten years of writing of The Protest.
A great story, beautifully written and full of understanding.   It is about experiencing and turning that experience into wisdom, about pain and conquering, joy, and becoming.   Dianne lived this wisdom throughout the real experience she wove into her book, and because she lives forward life is indeed very good today.  Listening to Dianne is an inspiration ... in so many ways!
The following quote by Kafka was used when introducing Dianne at a lecture. It is so appropriate:  "If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skulls, then why do we read it? …What we must have are those books that come on us like ill fortune, like the death of one we love better than ourselves, like suicide. A book must be an ice axe to break the sea frozen inside us.”
"First Do No Harm"
If religions followed the Hippocratic Oath, much mental and emotional damage would not be perpetrated in the name of God.  'The Protest' is fiction inspired by the author's true experience of religious hijacking of her daughters.  A disturbing story seldom talked about, so we think it's rare in this country.   Is it a Christ-loving man or a Christian monster who would erode the loving relationship between his daughters and their mother, instilling hate and fear?  A strong force to combat and not make the children suffer more, "I had to let go or I would come to hate."  Yet this is a story of triumph, inspiration, and one that will give strength to many.  "I truly believe each of us are radiating centers of meaning, we are creating our existence."
